Analyst

Apex Analytics, an energy consulting firm based in Boulder, Colorado, is looking for an Analyst to join our team in Portland, Oregon, or Boulder, Colorado. Apex offers energy efficiency program planning and evaluation services for utilities and public agencies.  We are a small, 10-person firm, offer a casual, highly collaborative, friendly working environment (dogs allowed), and value our time in and out of the office (we love our afternoon bike rides or runs). The Analyst position supports all aspects of qualitative (interview) and survey instrument development, data collection, and analysis. The Analyst will also support analysis of market data (sales data and other sources), as well as diverse document and secondary source research to support literature reviews and benchmarking. The position will require supporting project managers to keep projects on task and on budget, as well as identifying key findings and summarizing them into succinct and engaging client reports and presentations. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, is comfortable working independently, and be very detail oriented.

Responsibilities:

  • Draft survey instruments and interview guides to address defined research objectives

  • Conduct interviews (primarily by phone) and survey data collection (by web and phone) with appropriate probing to gather high-quality data

  • Analyze qualitative data to identify key themes and develop well-supported findings

  • Analyze survey data, identifying and exploring key findings and relationships between findings

  • Identify and review secondary data sources as appropriate to address project objectives

  • Complete tasks on-time and on-budget

  • Help with marketing activities, including RFP submissions, monthly newsletters, and other communications.  

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Experience with social science research methods

  • 2+ years relevant experience in program evaluation, market research, journalism, or a related field, preferably with a focus on energy efficiency and clean energy

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel,

  • Ability to track progress to goals, stay on task, and communicate well with the team

  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks across multiple projects and keep priorities and tasks organized

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher

  • Familiarity with statistical software packages (SPSS, R, etc.), and/or qualitative analysis software (NVivo, MaxQDA, Dedoose)

  • Understanding of utility run DSM programs and evaluation needs
